The estimated trade-in amount was going to be way less than $800 and probably closer to $500. It needs a lot of work: brakes, transmission flush, oil change, and replacement of the rear coil springs, and the normal rust of a W203 needs to be addressed.

Sure, I can sell it to someone desperate but I don’t want to be bothered with it any longer. I want to teach myself a few things thanks to encouraging YT videos like brakes and take a shot at the rust. Unfortunately I don’t have time — physically nor emotionally — to deal with it thanks to personal issues.

The donation would be tax deductible and the organization  that I want to give it to will pick it up for free.

I assume they scrap it, use it for mechanic training or something. Not giving it to some poor family just to make them worse off right?

No they actually auction it off and what it sells for is what I get to write off.
